South Korea tests its shelters to protect against air raids

The South Korean Ministry of Interior announced the conduct of exercises on protection from air strikes, the first of its kind in 6 years.

The exercises last for 20 minutes, and are scheduled to take place on the 23rd of this month. It will include civilian evacuation training and traffic restriction in a scenario similar to an air strike attack.

This will be the first civil defense maneuver against air strikes since the last one in August 2017.

The upcoming exercises come amid a mounting need to train people for emergencies.”

The city of Seoul was widely criticized after it sent a false alarm to citizens on May 31, when North Korea launched a satellite, even though the city was outside the area affected by the launch.

South Korea conducted civil defense exercises against air strikes in mid-May, but it did not include evacuation to shelters or imposing traffic restrictions for the general public at that time.
