Sharjah Ruler Meets UNESCO Director-General to Strengthen Cultural Ties

Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, met with Dr Khaled El Enany, Director-General of UNESCO, at Dr Sultan Al Qasimi Centre in the University City.

According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Sharjah Book Authority and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Book Culture. H.H. Sheikh Sultan extended a warm welcome to Dr Khaled El Enany, applauding UNESCO's significant role in supporting education, science, and culture programs worldwide. He highlighted the importance of UNESCO's efforts in promoting and consolidating projects that contribute to sustainable and social development.

H.H. the Ruler of Sharjah emphasized the strong and productive collaboration between UNESCO and the Emirate of Sharjah in various cultural fields. He reiterated Sharjah's ongoing commitment to supporting cultural and educational initiatives both within the Arab region and on an international scale. The Ruler stressed the importance of culture and education in societal development and the need to instill cultural identity and a sense of belonging in future generations.

The meeting also focused on the activation of joint cultural and scientific projects and initiatives between UNESCO and Sharjah. These efforts align with the UAE's broader goals, particularly the Emirate of Sharjah's dedication to education, knowledge preservation, and the safeguarding of the world's cultural and civilizational heritage. The discussions underscored the importance of cultural understanding, knowledge communication, and scientific progress as foundational elements for a better future.

The meeting was also attended by Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of Culture; Ali Al Haj Al Ali, UAE Representative to UNESCO; and several other officials.
