Ras Al Khaimah:Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, chaired the Farmers' Council in Ras Al Khaimah as part of the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme's Customer Councils. The Council engaged local farmers in discussions aimed at improving agricultural services and simplifying relevant procedures to boost domestic production and expand market access.
According to Wam, the Council addressed the needs of farmers and proposed enhancements in agricultural extension services and technical support. The discussions focused on adopting modern technologies and strengthening connections between production, markets, and the food processing industry to support the UAE's agricultural sector and its contribution to national food security.
The Council forms part of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the National Agriculture Centre's efforts to support the Zero Government Bureaucracy Programme. By gathering feedback from farmers, the Ministry aims to simplify procedures and reduce the effort needed to access services. The Council also seeks to shape farmer support programs based on practical needs and experiences, aligning service improvements with production and marketing requirements.
Dr. Amna Al Dahak emphasized the critical role farmers play in supporting the national food system and highlighted the need for continued support to improve produce quality and align production with national and market needs. The Ministry and the National Agriculture Centre are working to expand market opportunities for locally grown crops through collection centers and partnerships with food processing companies, aiming to enhance market access and returns for farmers.
The event, attended by Ministry officials and around 30 farmers, provided a platform for farmers to share feedback, discuss needs, and seek clarification on technical support and operational procedures. The dialogue addressed factors impacting successful growing seasons and explored solutions tailored to farmers' needs, including marketing strategies for locally grown crops.
The Council also discussed opportunities to connect farmers with the food processing industry, aiming to broaden demand and add value to local crops. This approach supports the agricultural value chain's development and creates economic opportunities while reducing losses.
Farmers provided insights into their production and marketing experiences, highlighting challenges and suggesting improvements in advisory support, crop quality, and cost reduction. Their participation aids in setting priorities for service improvements and support programs, linking better services with farm growth and advancement in the UAE, and encouraging younger generations to engage in agriculture and food innovation.
