Baku:Zambezi The Zambezi Region in Namibia has reported a total of 33,944 malaria cases since January. The major hotspots contributing significantly to this figure are the Muyako, Choi, and Sesheke Clinics, which together account for 49% of the 706 cases reported recently over a five-week period.
According to Wam, health authorities have pinpointed several mosquito breeding sites and environmental factors that have contributed to the increase in malaria cases. The Directorate of Health's latest report identifies active mosquito breeding sites around Muyako village and Lake Liambezi.
In Choi, the prevalence of outdoor activities has been noted to increase residents' exposure to mosquito bites. Additionally, in Sesheke, poor sanitation and stagnant water in discarded containers have been identified as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The region has also recorded 22 fatalities due to malaria.
