UAE Recognized as Leader in AI Adoption by OpenAI CEO

Abu Dhabi:Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, has recognized the United Arab Emirates as the most forward-looking country in terms of adopting artificial intelligence.

According to Emirates News Agency, Altman made this statement during a panel discussion at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC 2026). He highlighted the recent agreements involving OpenAI, ADNOC, and G42, emphasizing that the collaboration among these entities will play a pivotal role in advancing the energy sector through AI technologies.

Altman noted that AI is transforming work processes, with tools like ChatGPT enhancing job efficiency. He remarked that many people are now integrating AI as part of their teams. Additionally, he expressed enthusiasm about AI's potential in scientific discovery, indicating that AI systems have recently begun addressing complex mathematical problems previously unsolved by humans.

In the context of energy, Altman observed that while the energy required for AI queries is decreasing due to improved efficiency, the lower costs of usage are leading to an increase in AI applications. He expressed hope that AI's advantages in the energy sector would outweigh its own energy consumption, ultimately contributing to greater global energy availability.

Altman also addressed the impact of AI on employment, acknowledging that AI can perform many tasks associated with white-collar jobs. However, he expressed optimism that societies will adapt to these changes. He emphasized the importance of human creativity and judgement, advocating for AI to remain a tool that supports people rather than one that makes decisions about their futures.
