Abu dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) and Silal have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at advancing sustainable energy and water management in agriculture. This collaboration is a significant step in the Emirate's vision to transition toward a more sustainable and resource-efficient agricultural sector.
According to Emirates News Agency, the MoU was signed by Eng. Ahmed Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Undersecretary of the Abu Dhabi Department of Energy, and Dhafer Rashed Al Qasimi, Group Chief Executive Officer of Silal Group, during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week 2026. Eng. Ahmed Al Falasi, Executive Director of Energy Efficiency Sector at the DoE, emphasized that the partnership is part of Abu Dhabi's holistic approach to sustainability. By integrating clean technologies and smart solutions, the collaboration aims to enhance resource efficiency and ensure resilient food systems for the future.
Dr. Shamal Mohammed, CEO of Silal Innovation Oasis, also highlighted the benefits of the partnership. The collaboration will advance the Food, Water, and Energy Nexus by improving water and energy efficiency through smart irrigation and data-driven management. It will accelerate innovation in clean energy and AgriTech solutions such as solar power, low-energy desalination, and AI optimization, while strengthening policy alignment and institutional collaboration to deliver sustainable impact for Abu Dhabi's agricultural sector.
The collaboration focuses on boosting energy and water efficiency using smart irrigation, renewable energy, and data-driven solutions. These efforts aim to improve productivity and reduce resource use, aligning with Abu Dhabi's Clean Energy Targets 2035 and the UAE's Net Zero 2050 goals. Under the MoU, both parties will work together to implement clean energy and agri-tech innovations, including solar-powered farm systems and AI-based water management.
This partnership underscores Abu Dhabi's dedication to sustainable growth and supports initiatives like UAE Net Zero 2050 and the Abu Dhabi Climate Change Strategy 2023. By combining expertise in energy regulation and agri-tech innovation, the MoU sets the stage for joint frameworks and pilot programs that enhance the efficiency, resilience, and sustainability of the agricultural sector.
