Abu Dhabi University Launches Graphene Centre to Advance Innovation Capabilities.

Abu Dhabi: On the sidelines of ADIPEC 2024, Abu Dhabi University (ADU) in partnership with Inovartic Investment and Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology (SLINTEC) announced the launch of its first Graphene Centre, a dedicated facility to enhancing research and innovation in graphene technology. The inauguration ceremony meeting took place in the presence of Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of ADU and Saif Al Darmaki, Chairman and Co-Founder of Inovartic Investment. In addition to representatives from SLINTEC led by the CEO Tushara Vajera Perera. This initiative aims to promote scientific advancements and collaborations in nanotechnology, in various fields, including electronics, oil, medical, electric vehicle (EV) batteries, water, agriculture, paints, materials science and energy.According to Emirates News Agency, Professor Ghassan Aouad, Chancellor of ADU, emphasized the significance of graphene, stating its presence in multiple industries such as energy, agriculture, and construction. The collaborat ion with Inovartic and SLINTEC aims to explore further applications of graphene to enhance UAE industries in alignment with the 'Make it in the UAE' initiative. Saif Al Darmaki highlighted that partnering with ADU to establish the Graphene Centre marks a considerable achievement for Inovartic Investment, foreseeing the centre as a catalyst for groundbreaking research and sustainable technological advancements benefiting both the UAE and the global community.Thushara Vajera Perera, CEO of SLINTEC, expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, anticipating that the Graphene Centre will lead innovative projects with significant impacts on science and technology. The centre is expected to become a crucial hub for researchers, industry professionals, and students, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and resources. It will focus on pioneering research projects and fostering international collaborations, underscoring the importance of global partnerships in propelling innovation.ADU's College of Engineering's p articipation in ADIPEC 2024 at the ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi provides visitors the opportunity to explore student projects that demonstrate innovations in sustainability, energy consumption, and fields like artificial intelligence and robotics. Graphene, derived from graphite, is noted for its toughness, flexibility, and high resistance, making it a notable material in everyday items and advanced technologies.
