ABU DHABI: The Department of Energy - Abu Dhabi (DoE) launched a Youth Programme as part of the International Desalination and Water Reuse World Congress (IDRA World Congress 2024), focusing on engaging young individuals from the UAE and beyond in critical discussions about global water challenges. The initiative aims to equip the next generation with the knowledge and skills necessary to address issues such as water scarcity, sustainable practices, and technological advancements.According to Emirates News Agency, the Youth Programme brought together industry experts and academics to lead strategic discussions, workshops, and ideation sessions. Topics included technological innovation, energy integration, and international cooperation in water stewardship. Awaidha Murshed Al Marar, Chairman of the DoE, emphasized the importance of involving youth in these dialogues, highlighting their role as future innovators who will protect water resources.The programme featured sessions like 'The Abu Dhabi Water Drop Story,' presented by Al Marar, which focused on the evolution of water management in Abu Dhabi. Workshops such as 'Youth Ideation Workshop: Hydro and Solar Tech Synergy' led by Malake Halabi, and 'Driving Energy Leadership and Innovation' by Ayesha Abdulrahman Al Ali, addressed sustainable innovation and leadership in energy.The Youth Programme is a key part of the Congress's larger agenda to explore the connection between water, energy, and food security. It seeks to inspire young leaders to advocate for sustainable water use policies and technologies. Shannon McCarthy, Secretary-General of IDRA, emphasized the need for future leaders to pursue sustainable solutions to combat global water scarcity.Hamad Naji Aldhaheri, Chairman of the DoE Youth Council, noted the programme's role in providing young participants with valuable experience on the international stage.
