European Commission and UNESCO to Launch Education Project Targeting Racism

Brussels: The European Commission, in collaboration with UNESCO, is set to initiate a new project aimed at strengthening education against racism, with a special emphasis on the role of the media. This initiative was announced recently by European Commissioner for Equality Hadja Lahbib.

According to Emirates News Agency, the project will feature a series of seminars that will bring together journalists, civil society organizations, and representatives from communities impacted by racism. The initiative also plans to address the influence of social media in shaping perceptions related to racism.

Furthermore, the European Commission intends to launch an EU-wide information campaign to promote the "Union of Equality." Additionally, there will be a stronger focus on enforcing sanctions in member states that do not comply with the Racial Equality directive. Special attention will also be given to ensuring the correct application of these directives in cases involving discrimination linked to AI algorithms.

Presently, only 14 out of the European Union's 27 member states have implemented a national action plan against racism, a number Commissioner Lahbib described as inadequate.
