Dubai: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, has reviewed the ambitious AED16 billion Main Roads Development Plan for 2024-2027, set to enhance Dubai’s urban mobility and infrastructure. The plan, which includes 22 projects, aims to benefit over 6 million people and align with Dubai’s comprehensive development strategies.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed was accompanied by H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Omar Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications, and Abdulla Al Basti, Secretary-General of The Executive Council of Dubai. They were welcomed by Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, along with several senior RTA officials. The review included a presentation on the growth of public t
ransport users, road network expansion, and infrastructure development in Dubai since 2006.
The development plan outlines significant enhancements, including a 117 percent increase in road network lane-kilometres and a 281 percent rise in the number of lanes across Dubai Creek. Vehicle bridges and tunnels saw a 729 percent increase, while pedestrian bridges and tunnels, encompassing Dubai Metro and Tram structures, grew by 396 percent. Cycling tracks experienced a substantial 6,088 percent increase, with plans to further connect coastal and external areas.
Sheikh Hamdan received briefings on key projects such as the Latifa bint Hamdan Street development, which will add capacity for approximately 16,000 vehicles per hour and reduce travel time by up to 20 percent. Other projects include the Meydan Road and Al Mustaqbal Street developments, designed to significantly increase road capacity and reduce travel time for a vast number of residents.
The review also covered RTA’s initiatives in autonomous transport
and AI integration in traffic management, along with plans to expand the Dubai Tram network with innovative trackless tram systems. These systems promise eco-friendly, cost-effective solutions for urban mobility, further complemented by the extension of dedicated bus and taxi lanes in 2025 and 2026.
Sheikh Hamdan was briefed on various technological advancements and training initiatives, including the Commercial Transport (Logisty) Platform, cycling track network enhancements, the ‘Green Road’ safe driving system, and the Smart Control Centre performance metrics. The RTA’s commitment to training Emirati talent in advanced technologies was also highlighted, showcasing efforts to sponsor education and provide specialised training.
These comprehensive efforts underscore Dubai’s commitment to transforming its transport infrastructure, enhancing urban mobility, and supporting sustainable development through strategic planning and innovative technologies.
