Dubai: H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai, attended the launch of the Dubai Digital Twin Platform, marking a strategic milestone in the emirate's digital transformation journey.
According to Emirates News Agency, the launch took place during the 'Partners in Building the Digital Twin' workshop organized by Dubai Municipality. The workshop aimed to showcase the platform's applications and its role in supporting smart urban planning, decision-making, and enhancing Dubai's preparedness for the future.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan emphasized that the Dubai Digital Twin Platform aligns with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to utilize advanced technologies and data. This initiative is part of a broader effort to transform Dubai into a smarter, more sustainable city, reinforcing its status as a global model for foresight and digital innovation. It also aligns with the objectives of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, which aims to boost the emirate's global competitiveness.
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, was among the attendees. Sheikh Hamdan stated that the project is a reflection of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid's vision to use advanced technology and data for creating a future-ready city. The aim is to enhance planning efficiency, informed decision-making, and quality of life, marking a significant step in making Dubai the best place to live, work, and invest.
Sheikh Hamdan further explained that the project is part of building an integrated digital ecosystem, based on data integration, artificial intelligence, and partnerships between the public and private sectors. This approach is expected to accelerate the development of innovative solutions, enhancing Dubai's readiness for future changes and reinforcing its leadership in smart cities and digital transformation.
The Digital Twin project exemplifies Dubai's collaborative model, based on cooperation between government entities and private sector partners, focusing on innovation and advanced technologies to deliver efficient services, improve quality of life, and establish the emirate as a global benchmark for future city building.
During the workshop, Sheikh Hamdan reviewed the objectives of the project's new phase, focusing on urban planning, infrastructure and asset management, rainfall simulation, and digital solutions to support decision-making and strengthen the city's readiness for future scenarios. He also examined the outcomes of the project's third phase, which includes the creation of 3D models of over 195,000 buildings, enhancing the city's urban modeling capabilities.
Sheikh Hamdan also witnessed the signing of Memoranda of Understanding between Dubai Municipality and entities like Al-Futtaim Group and Huawei. These partnerships aim to bolster collaboration in Digital Twin technologies, research, and future foresight, supporting Dubai Municipality's efforts to broaden the platform's applications across various sectors.
Eng. Marwan Ahmed Bin Ghalita, Director General of Dubai Municipality, stated that the completion of the Digital Twin project is a strategic milestone in Dubai's path to becoming a smarter, more sustainable city. It reflects the leadership's vision to leverage advanced technologies and data to improve government services and the management of assets and infrastructure.
Eng. Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, highlighted the platform's role in unifying spatial and operational data, enabling future scenario simulation and efficient decision-making. The next phase will focus on expanding partnerships and maximizing data utilization across vital sectors.
The Dubai Digital Twin Platform acts as a precise virtual replica of Dubai, incorporating extensive data on facilities, landmarks, infrastructure, master plans, buildings, and residential units. Continuous updates ensure data accuracy and reliability, reflecting Dubai's vision for future anticipation and technological advancement, thus strengthening its global leadership in smart city development and enhancing service efficiency and quality of life.
As part of the third phase, Dubai Municipality has converted more than 280,000 infrastructure assets and over 330,000 public facilities into 3D models. The project now includes over 1,500 geospatial data layers and more than 100 two- and three-dimensional applications, supporting a wide range of sectors.
