Iran’s Foreign Minister Meets Sudanese Counterpart After 7 Years of Severed Relations

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian discussed with his Sudanese counterpart Ali Al-Sadiq Ali bilateral relations between the two countries, especially after the severance of relations between Khartoum and Tehran seven years ago.

On the sidelines of the Ministerial Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), which is held in Baku, Azerbaijan, the two ministers affirmed on resolving some misunderstandings between the two countries and strengthening political and economic relations between Tehran and Khartoum.

In January 2016, the Sudanese government had asked the Iranian ambassador in Khartoum and the entire Iranian diplomatic mission there to leave the country, and summoned its ambassador in Tehran, to officially announce the severance of relations with Iran.
