Istanbul: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met with Khamis Atieh, First Deputy Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives, during the 152nd Assembly of the IPU and the 217th session of the Governing Council in Istanbul. The meeting was hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Trkiye.
According to Emirates News Agency, the two leaders discussed strengthening the relations between the UAE and Jordan and explored enhancing parliamentary cooperation. They aimed to boost parliamentary diplomacy to support shared interests and promote regional stability.
The conversation included the Iranian missile attacks on the UAE and other countries, emphasizing the serious repercussions on regional and international peace and security. The attacks' impact on international navigation, global energy markets, and trade were also reviewed.
The meeting addressed Iranian attacks on civilians and infrastructure, highlighting these actions as violations of international law. Both leaders condemned the attacks, stressing they violate state sovereignty and the UN Charter.
Dr. Atieh expressed Jordan's solidarity with the UAE and support for measures to defend its sovereignty and security. Ghobash reiterated the UAE's commitment to diplomatic solutions and its policy of restraint during the crisis, avoiding military escalation.
Ghobash expressed solidarity with Jordan against threats to its security, praising Jordan's rejection of the unjustified attacks. He highlighted the significant growth in non-oil bilateral trade, reflecting strong economic ties.
Both sides emphasized the importance of unified positions within the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union to enhance security and tackle common issues. They affirmed the strong UAE-Jordan relations built on mutual understanding and a shared vision for regional stability.
The meeting was attended by several FNC members and Saeed Thani Al Dhaheri, UAE's Ambassador to Trkiye.
