Sharjah: The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and develop investment partnerships with both the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal and the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
According to Emirates News Agency, the Sharjah Chamber reaffirmed its commitment to unlocking new opportunities for the emirate's business community, focusing on key sectors.
The discussions took place at a high-level meeting at the Sharjah Chamber's headquarters, attended by Abdallah Sultan Al Owais, Chairman of SCCI, and a delegation from Nepal. This included Tej Bahadur Chhetri, Ambassador of Nepal to the UAE, and Chandra Prasad Dhakal, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI). Other notable attendees comprised Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of SCCI, and several other officials from both sides.
Al Owais emphasized SCCI's role in nurturing a business-friendly environment to help companies expand from Sharjah, leveraging the emirate's strategic location and diverse economic growth. He urged the Nepalese business community to utilize international platforms at Expo Centre Sharjah, such as the Sharjah Real Estate Exhibition "ACRES," SteelFab, and the Watch and Jewellery Middle East Show.
Tej Bahadur Chhetri acknowledged Sharjah Chamber's efforts in bolstering bilateral economic ties, expressing interest in evolving these into sustainable partnerships. Discussions were centered on priority investment sectors in Nepal, including hydropower, tourism, cable car projects, IT, garments, and agriculture. Chandra Prasad Dhakal showed interest in establishing Nepalese enterprises in Sharjah, commending the emirate's investor-friendly ecosystem.
Both parties consented to set up a framework for information exchange related to major trade exhibitions. The Sharjah Chamber shared its 2026 events agenda with the Nepalese delegation, while FNCCI invited the chamber to its Annual General Meeting in April in Nepal.
Additionally, Al Owais met with a Sri Lankan delegation led by Alexi Gunasekara, Consul General of Sri Lanka, and Subhasini Silva, Head of Chancery. The meeting, attended by SCCI officials, focused on collaboration in sectors like renewable energy, food security, and logistics. Al Owais encouraged Sri Lankan firms to leverage Expo Centre Sharjah's commercial events for regional expansion.
Alexi Gunasekara commended the support from the Sharjah Chamber, emphasizing Sharjah's strategic importance as a gateway for Sri Lankan products. The dialogue included preparations for upcoming economic events and planned high-level visits from Sri Lankan officials, alongside arrangements for bilateral business meetings.
The Sri Lankan Consul General invited the Sharjah Chamber to lead a business delegation to Sri Lanka to explore joint cooperation opportunities and strategic partnerships in textiles, gemstones, and other key sectors.
