Sharjah: In a move to propel artificial intelligence adoption in government operations, the Sharjah Digital Department (SDD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dell Technologies. The agreement aims to launch a comprehensive programme focused on building institutional capabilities in artificial intelligence within the Emirate of Sharjah.
According to Emirates News Agency, this initiative will enhance the readiness of government entities to incorporate advanced technologies, thereby improving services and the quality of life across the Emirate. The collaboration supports SDD's mission to create an integrated digital ecosystem that transitions towards a more efficient and human-centric government. This initiative also focuses on empowering national talent and reinforcing the use of data and smart technologies to bolster decision-making and enhance government performance.
The agreement was officially signed by Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director General of SDD, and Walid Yehia, Managing Director of Gulf Dell Technologies. The signing ceremony was attended by Eng. Lamia Obaid Al Shamsi, Director of SDD, and Majid Hamad Al Marri, Director of the Sharjah Department of Human Resources.
The MoU outlines the implementation of a comprehensive programme that includes hands-on training, knowledge transfer, and specialised workshops. These are designed for senior and mid-level government executives and professionals across various sectors, aiming to develop practical AI use cases in their work environments. The programme seeks to accelerate the adoption of AI technologies, transforming them into tools for enhancing operational efficiency and service delivery.
The initiative also aims to prepare the government workforce to keep pace with rapid technological advancements, delivering proactive and seamless services that improve customer experience and quality of life in the Emirate.
Sheikh Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi highlighted the strategic importance of the agreement in the Emirate's digital transformation journey. He noted that AI is seen as a key driver for redesigning government operations in Sharjah, with the collaboration intended to build sustainable institutional capabilities. The initiative is part of the Sharjah Digital Transformation Strategy 2026-2028, focusing on enhancing government readiness to adopt AI technologies and supporting the development of a smart, interconnected government ecosystem.
Public-private partnerships are emphasized as crucial enablers of this transformation, facilitating knowledge transfer and leveraging global best practices to accelerate the adoption of advanced digital solutions.
Walid Yehia of Dell Technologies expressed pleasure in collaborating with the Sharjah Digital Department. He stated that the agreement will allow Dell to bring its global expertise to empower government entities with cutting-edge technologies, creating more efficient operational models.
