Sharjah Ruler Establishes Wadi Al Qarha Nature Reserve

Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has decreed the establishment of the 'Wadi Al Qarha' Nature Reserve in the Emirate of Sharjah. This new reserve is aimed at preserving the natural ecosystem and wildlife in the designated area, with its geographical boundaries defined by an approved map.

According to Emirates News Agency, the decree outlines specific prohibitions to protect the reserve's ecosystem. Activities that could damage or degrade the environment, harm wildlife, or affect the reserve's aesthetic value are strictly prohibited. This includes hunting, transporting, or harming wild organisms, as well as introducing non-native species. Additionally, damaging geological formations, polluting the area, and conducting military maneuvers are banned.

The decree also prohibits recreational activities that could negatively impact wildlife, and the construction of facilities or roads without appropriate permits. Furthermore, any actions that disrupt the natural balance of the reserve are not allowed.

In reference to Federal Law No. (24) of 1999 on the Protection and Development of the Environment, the decree mandates the protection of all living organisms within the reserve. Activities in surrounding areas that could affect the reserve's environment require a permit from the competent authority. Violators of the decree will face penalties and bear the costs of rectifying any damage caused.

The law assigns the competent authority the responsibility of managing the reserve and coordinating with municipal bodies and Sharjah Police to enforce regulations. The Chairman of the competent authority is empowered to issue administrative decisions necessary for the reserve's management.
