Sharjah Ruler Inaugurates Souq Sharia’t Al Dhaid

Sharjah: His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inaugurated Souq Sharia’t Al Dhaid on Saturday. The market is strategically located near Falaj Al Dhaid and Sharia’t Al Dhaid, positioned between Al Dhaid Fort and Al Mudarissa Tower.

According to Emirates News Agency, H.H. reviewed the site during a tour of the market’s corridors, reflecting on its historical significance as a resting and resupply point for convoys. It played a crucial role in commercial activities, connecting Al Dhaid with its surroundings through historic convoy routes.

During the visit, H.H. explored various shops offering diverse services and products to visitors and locals. The market is a significant addition to the region’s economic and social landscape, stimulating commercial and tourism activities, supporting productive families and small businesses, and providing a platform for local products and traditional crafts.

H.H. also examined the market entrances, which are designed for smooth movement and integration with the urban surroundings. The market features four main entrances, each connecting to significant local landmarks like Al Dhaid Wildlife Museum, Al Dhaid Fort, and Al Mudarissa Tower.

The market includes a camel track for races and beauty contests, and an arcade that provides views of palm trees and flowing water, offering a glimpse into the region’s past and lifestyle. The development preserves traditional architectural styles while upgrading facilities to meet modern needs, spanning 3,186 square metres and housing 34 retail units, including restaurants, caf©s, and shops with local and international products.

The architectural design, inspired by the surrounding desert environment and local culture, employs traditional materials like ‘arish’ palm-frond structures. The market provides 595 parking spaces, including spots for people with disabilities and electric vehicle charging, along with enhanced road and pedestrian safety features.

The project enhances Al Dhaid’s tourism appeal by combining history, heritage, and economic experiences, positively impacting family income, local economy, and community project sustainability.

Accompanying the Sharjah Ruler at the inauguration were several dignitaries, including Sheikh Salem bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi and Sheikh Majid bin Sultan Al Qasimi, among others.
