The South Korean Ministry of Interior announced the conduct of exercises on protection from air strikes, the first of its kind in 6 years.
The exercises last for 20 minutes, and are scheduled to take place on the 23rd of this month. It will include civilian evacuation training and traffic restriction in a scenario similar to an air strike attack.
This will be the first civil defense maneuver against air strikes since the last one in August 2017.
The upcoming exercises come amid a mounting need to train people for emergencies.”
The city of Seoul was widely criticized after it sent a false alarm to citizens on May 31, when North Korea launched a satellite, even though the city was outside the area affected by the launch.
South Korea conducted civil defense exercises against air strikes in mid-May, but it did not include evacuation to shelters or imposing traffic restrictions for the general public at that time.
