Stability of Gulf Region Essential for Global Economy and Maritime Security, States GCC Chief

Prague: Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), affirmed that the stability of the Gulf region remains a fundamental pillar for the stability of the global economy and international maritime security. He highlighted the consistent efforts by GCC member states to enhance security, stability, development, and prosperity to serve the mutual interests of the region's peoples and the entire world.

According to Emirates News Agency, this statement was delivered during Albudaiwi's participation in a panel session on GCC-European strategic links, held in Prague on the sidelines of the GLOBSEC Global Security Forum 2026. He emphasized the importance of the strategic partnership between the GCC and the European Union (EU) in solidifying the Council's initiatives amidst rapid geopolitical shifts and growing global security and economic challenges.

Albudaiwi stated that the GCC General Secretariat's involvement in the forum exemplifies its commitment to maintaining an active presence in regional and international discussions. This engagement aims to bolster communication and exchange perspectives with international partners, decision-makers, and experts, thereby supporting efforts to maintain regional and international security while adapting to rapid global changes.

He noted recent events that have significantly impacted security and stability in the region. The GCC states have engaged in continuous diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions, promoting dialogue and diplomacy to protect regional security and the safety of its peoples. Albudaiwi underscored the critical importance of safeguarding air and maritime corridors, ensuring freedom of navigation, the safety of supply chains, and the stability of global energy markets.

Recent developments have demonstrated the interconnectedness of European and Middle Eastern security. Any disruption in the Gulf region and its surrounding maritime passages has direct implications on the European economy, global energy security, supply chains, and international stability. Albudaiwi emphasized that Gulf stability is a shared international interest.

Discussing the future of Gulf-European relations, Albudaiwi expressed aspirations to elevate ties to broader horizons.
