Trkiye Increases Electricity and Natural Gas Prices by Up to 25%

Ankara: Trkiye has implemented a significant increase in electricity and natural gas prices, with household electricity costs rising by 25% and household natural gas prices increasing by an average of 25%. This adjustment comes as a response to escalating energy costs both globally and domestically.

According to Emirates News Agency, the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) of Trkiye announced that power prices for public and private service sector subscribers connected at low voltage would see a 17.5% increase. Industrial subscribers connected at medium voltage will experience a 5.8% rise, while agricultural users will face a 24.8% hike.

The new pricing structure, which became effective nationwide on April 4, will result in a household consuming 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity paying $7.26. Energy authorities have pointed to sustained upward pressure on production and distribution costs within the energy market as the primary reason for these adjustments.

This decision follows a notable increase in global energy benchmarks, largely attributed to supply chain concerns in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical passageway for global oil and fuel transportation.
