Abu dhabi: President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Excellency Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, convened to discuss the enhancement of bilateral relations, focusing on economic, investment, advanced technology, and artificial intelligence sectors.
According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting took place at Qasr Al Shati in Abu Dhabi, where His Highness extended a warm welcome to President Parmelin and congratulated him on his upcoming presidency of the Swiss Confederation in 2026. The discussion underscored a mutual commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expanding cooperative efforts.
The leaders highlighted the significance of the Global AI Summit, scheduled to be hosted in Geneva in 2027 and the UAE in 2028. His Highness emphasized the shared commitment of both nations to advance AI technology for global development and prosperity. The dialogue also reaffirmed the importance of leveraging AI to develop innovative solutions for global challenges, with a focus on fostering a sustainable and prosperous future.
Regional and international issues of mutual concern were also addressed, with both leaders advocating for the promotion of global peace and stability through dialogue and diplomatic solutions.
The meeting was attended by H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi; H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs; and several ministers and senior officials. The delegation accompanying President Parmelin was also present.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the announcement of a Memorandum of Understanding between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade and Switzerland's Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research, which will establish a joint economic committee. Additionally, a Letter of Intent was announced between the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Swiss Confederation, focused on cooperation in the field of water and the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 6, ensuring access to water and sanitation for all.
