UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation Introduces Family Award to Honor Supportive Families

Abu Dhabi:The UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation has introduced the Jiu-Jitsu Family Award, aimed at recognizing Emirati and expatriate families who actively support their children's involvement in the sport of jiu-jitsu.

According to Wam, the award seeks to emphasize the significant role families play in nurturing talent, boosting participation in jiu-jitsu, and supporting national teams. This initiative is intended to reinforce the UAE's prominent position in jiu-jitsu both regionally and internationally.

The Federation's efforts are focused on increasing family engagement in identifying and developing young talent, promoting jiu-jitsu values among the youth, and enhancing participation in the sport. The initiative also aims at fostering long-term success and strengthening family ties.

Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, highlighted the vital role families have played in the sport's growth within the UAE. He noted that families often first recognize and nurture young talent, supporting athletes as they hone their skills. He emphasized that family backing is a key factor in the success of jiu-jitsu in the UAE, aiding in the sport's popularity and the achievements of national teams.

The award is open to both Emirati and expatriate families residing in the UAE, provided that at least two family members are involved in jiu-jitsu in roles such as athletes, coaches, referees, administrators, or volunteers. Applicants must show proof of registration or participation, and nominations can be submitted by families, clubs, academies, and sports organizations.

Applications will be evaluated based on five criteria ongoing family involvement in jiu-jitsu, sporting accomplishments, the number of family members involved and their various roles, contributions to promoting the sport and community service, and the family's inspirational story and commitment to sporting values. The evaluation will consider competition levels, technical development, and years of participation instead of only focusing on medal counts.

A judging committee, including representatives from the Federation's Board of Directors and relevant departments, will review applications based on standardized criteria to ensure fairness. Nominations are open from November 6 to 17, with the winners to be announced and honored on November 22.

The Federation encourages eligible families, clubs, and academies to participate in the award and share their stories to highlight contributions to jiu-jitsu's development in the UAE and inspire wider community involvement in the sport.
