Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), emphasized that the UAE has established solid foundations for sustainable humanitarian work under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. This commitment to humanitarian initiatives is a national priority, deeply embedded in the country's vision.
According to Emirates News Agency, Sheikh Hamdan, in a statement marking World Humanitarian Day, highlighted the UAE's effective contributions to addressing humanitarian crises. These efforts are characterized by innovative programs aimed at providing sustainable solutions for community development. He underscored that the UAE's foreign humanitarian aid is guided by principles of neutrality and humanity, without being influenced by ethnic, religious, or sectarian biases.
Sheikh Hamdan noted the significance of World Humanitarian Day as a moment to reaffirm the UAE's dedication to enhancing international cooperation in the humanitarian domain. He emphasized the importance of collective efforts and shared visions among nations to tackle escalating global challenges. The UAE continues to focus on reducing poverty, hunger, and malnutrition, aiming to alleviate suffering in countries experiencing humanitarian and development crises. Providing basic necessities, particularly food, remains a priority as it is crucial in combating diseases, epidemics, displacement, and deprivation.
He highlighted international reports indicating that over 305 million people in 72 countries are in need of humanitarian aid, and approximately 400 million children are living in conflict zones. Sheikh Hamdan called upon the international community and United Nations agencies to intensify their efforts, enhance partnerships, and strengthen coordination on initiatives that support the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly the eradication of poverty and hunger.
Furthermore, he appealed to donor organizations to increase their support for specialized humanitarian institutions, enabling them to fulfill their roles amid the challenging economic conditions currently affecting the world. Sheikh Hamdan affirmed that the ERC has recently broadened the scope of its relief operations and improved its response to escalating humanitarian crises within the region, guided by a mission that prioritizes human needs.
