Geneva, The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) called for humanitarian aid to enter the Gaza Strip in a sustainable and unrestricted manner.
UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner said: “The humanitarian situation and development prospects in Gaza were already bad before the current war and will deteriorate significantly due to the fighting, destruction of civilian infrastructure and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of civilians, and the resulting human losses will be enormous.”
He pointed out that the violence and destruction during the hostilities and demographic pressures caused unacceptable human losses and affected all aspects of economic and social development, calling for an end to war and the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, the siege and internal forced displacement.
