United Arab Emirates and Republic of Cyprus Strengthen Strategic Ties Through Joint Statement


Abu dhabi: The United Arab Emirates and the Republic of Cyprus have issued a joint statement reaffirming the depth of their strategic relationship and their shared commitment to expanding bilateral relations. The statement emphasizes their dedication to advancing regional stability, cooperation, and sustainable development.



According to Emirates News Agency, the meeting involved Lana Nusseibeh, Minister of State of the UAE, and Dr. Constantinos Kombos, Minister of Foreign Affairs, along with Marilena Raouna, Deputy Minister for European Affairs of Cyprus. The discussions highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two nations and their mutual desire to enhance cooperation across various sectors, including humanitarian, economic, and multilateral fields.



During the bilateral visit, Minister Nusseibeh met with President Nikos Christodoulides to discuss matters of mutual interest and conveyed greetings from President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. Both sides reviewed cooperation in light of Cyprus’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026, expressing readiness to deepen dialogues on regional priorities.



Minister Kombos provided updates on the Cyprus issue, with Minister Nusseibeh reaffirming the UAE’s support for a solution aligned with the UNSC resolutions. The joint statement reiterated their commitment to the UAE-Cyprus Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, formalized in February 2022, covering areas such as defence, energy, trade, and culture.



The two nations agreed to prioritize joint projects in clean energy, digital transformation, and maritime connectivity. They acknowledged the importance of people-to-people engagement and ongoing exchanges. During a visit to the Port of Limassol, both sides recognized the Amalthea Cyprus Maritime Corridor as a critical humanitarian lifeline for Gaza, agreeing to continue cooperation with international partners.



The Ministers discussed the conflict in Sudan, expressing concern over attacks by RSF forces and calling for the protection of civilians. They stressed the need for de-escalation, humanitarian access, and accountability, while supporting Sudan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.



On Ukraine, the Ministers reaffirmed support for a comprehensive peace based on sovereignty and territorial integrity. They noted the roles of the UAE and Cyprus in promoting dialogue and providing humanitarian assistance.



The meeting also explored opportunities for cooperation in renewable energy, digital connectivity, and humanitarian response. Both sides underscored the UAE-Cyprus partnership as a model of regional diplomacy based on international law and shared values.
