Sharjah: EDGE, one of the world's leading advanced technology and defence groups, and Indra Group, a leader in information technology, aerospace, defence, and mobility systems, have agreed to establish a new defence manufacturing company in Spain. This new entity will focus on developing, producing, and providing lifecycle support for loitering munitions and smart weapons aimed at Spanish and European defence programs. The initiative also includes plans for future expansion into additional defence capabilities based on evolving requirements.
According to Emirates News Agency, the agreement was signed in the presence of notable figures, including Amparo Valcarcel, the Spanish Secretary of State for Defence, Saleh Ahmad Salem Al Suwaidi, the UAE Ambassador to Spain, and Alberto Ruiz Rodrguez, General Director of Industrial Programmes of the Spanish Ministry of Industry. Also present were Faisal Al Bannai, Chairman of EDGE Group, and ngel Escribano, Executive Chairman of Indra Group. The agreement was formalized by Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, and Jos© Vicente de Los Mozos, CEO of Indra Group.
Pending approval from the boards of Indra Group and EDGE, the new entity will be established in Spain as a dedicated manufacturing hub. This company will leverage EDGE's expertise in loitering munitions and smart weapons to facilitate manufacturing, assembly, and lifecycle management for defence programs across Spain and Europe. The production of loitering munition systems is set to take place in a new drone manufacturing facility in the province of Le³n, which Indra plans to develop with an investment estimated between EUR 15-20 million.
This collaboration aims to produce advanced systems domestically, aligning with European sovereignty requirements, and to scale up production to meet the growing demand in the European defence market. The partnership underscores the commitment of both Indra and EDGE to developing sovereign and export-ready industrial capabilities in Europe, combining advanced weapons technology with established European-scale manufacturing and execution capacities.
Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE Group, expressed that the joint venture with Indra in Spain represents a significant move in EDGE's expansion into Europe. He emphasized that by developing loitering munition capabilities in Spain, the company is enabling local manufacturing and addressing the urgent needs of European defence requirements while fostering long-term industrial capability with a trusted partner.
