Istanbul: Saqr Ghobash, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), met with Alexander Radwan, a Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and the Committee on European Affairs of the German Bundestag and head of the German delegation, during the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul. The dialogue focused on the regional developments, especially considering the recent escalation and its implications for both regional and international security and stability.
According to Emirates News Agency, Saqr Ghobash emphasized that the attacks targeting the UAE are unjustifiable under any circumstances. He reiterated the UAE's stance on not allowing its territory, airspace, or waters to be used for launching attacks, in line with its principles of respecting state sovereignty and avoiding involvement in conflicts. Ghobash highlighted the threats faced by the UAE, noting the successful interception of more than 95% of the attacks due to the efficiency of its air defense systems, showcasing the UAE's capability to maintain its security and stability.
Ghobash also addressed Iran's long-standing conduct in the region, marked by interference in the internal affairs of states and support for proxies, which raises concerns about future coexistence. He questioned the implications if Iran were to acquire nuclear capabilities and warned about the potential dangers of threats to close the Strait of Hormuz, which could impact the global economy, international supply chains, and maritime navigation.
In response to these challenges, Ghobash stressed the UAE's commitment to a comprehensive humanitarian approach, offering support and care to all communities within its borders. Alexander Radwan expressed Germany's solidarity with the UAE, affirming support in overcoming these challenges and praising the measures taken by the UAE to ensure its security and the safety of its residents.
Both leaders underscored the necessity of coordinating positions within the Inter-Parliamentary Union to establish unified parliamentary stances that align with common interests. The meeting was attended by several FNC members.
