Sharjah Calligraphy Forum Adopts ‘Mizan’ Theme

Sharjah: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the 12th edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum is set to launch next October. Organised by the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture, the forum will run for two months and feature participation from local, Arab, and international artists.

According to Emirates News Agency, the organising committee selected 'Mizan' (Balance) as the theme for this year's edition during a meeting chaired by Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of Cultural Affairs and Director of the forum. The meeting was attended by committee members Khalid Al Jallaf, Khalid Al Saei, and Taj Alsir Hassan.

Al Qaseer stated that the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum continues to grow with each edition, achieving a global reach due to the ongoing patronage and artistic vision of the Ruler of Sharjah. He highlighted that the upcoming edition will feature a renewed format, reinforcing Sharjah's leading role in supporting Arabic calligraphy as an authentic Arab art form and maintaining the forum's significant message in light of the historical and Islamic importance of calligraphy.

He further explained that the theme 'Mizan' offers broad artistic implications, providing calligraphers with a wide creative scope to produce their works. This theme is expected to enrich the aesthetics of calligraphy and elevate its distinctive creative character to a special artistic status.

The organising committee will begin sending invitations to calligraphers and artists worldwide this month, and participation details will be announced through the department's official website and social media platforms. The deadline for electronic applications is set for the end of May, with submissions required to include artists' details, participating works, and their biographies.
